Electrical problem
1999 Dodge Caravan 6 cyl Automatic 133, 00 miles

My oil pressure light comes on and the warning bells start dinging when I first turn the car on and the engine is cool. I have had the oil changed and all parts seem to be in working order with no leakage. When I reach a certain RPM, the light and bells go off, but when I come back to idle, off the go again until the engine heats up! Could this be the oil pressure switch and is this something I can change out myself?

Yes this could be the oil pressure switch infact that is the first thing I would change. You should be able to do it your self. It should be next to the oil filter. This is what it should look like for the 3.3ltr and 3.8 ltr engine.

It was fairly simple to replace and I haven't had one single "ding, ding" since! Thank you again. What a great site and service.

Good picture.

I would try replacing the sensor first as it may be the sensor. It is a common failure for this but it could also be low oil pressure from something in the motor.

If the issue still exists after replacing it, then take it to a shop and have them do a manual test on the pressure to be sure.

Hi,

Has this issue been resolved? Did the oil pressure switch take care of the issue?

Let us know.
