My thermostat has always ran at half way. It's never tried to overheat, etc. When we came home today and turned off can, the radiator fan stayed on. My husband waited 30 minutes to see if it would go off by itself and it wouldn't. He disconnected the battery cable and the fan then went off. He reconnected the cable and now the fan won't come back on. He let the van run and it stated to get much warmer than it has ever run and the fan STILL won't come on. What's wrong? It came out of no where and I've never had any problems. He checked the fuses and there are ok. PLEASE HELP! Thanks so much for any advice :)

Hello,

Is the Engine Light on? If so could be the Coolant Temp Sensor.

The other possibility is the Coolant Fan Relay which is located on the inner frame rail under radiator on drivers side.

He replaced the coolant relay and the fan DID come on :). Now my problem is that it won't go OFF :(. The van has not been running for 5 hours so it's not hot. I have no idea WHY it's running or even HOW if the van is not even on. What do you make of this? Any suggestions on what we could check?

Oh and the check engine light is NOT on. I read somewhere that if it was the coolant temperature sensor then the engine light would always appear on. Is that correct? Ugh, I'm just so lost. I really appreciate any help you guys can provide. I will FOR SURE leave feedback!

Ok, try disconnecting the Coolant Temp Sensor and see if it turns off is it does replace it.

And yes in most cases the engine light should come on when coolant temp sensor goes bad.
