That means you likely have a bad clockspring in the steering column. Chrysler had a recall on many of the caravans for this so I suggest you contact the dealer to see if your vehicle is covered.

My horn and driver side airbag are not working. I want to know if you can tell me what is wrong with it and if I can fix it myself, thanks.

I have a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan SE with 156,000 miles on it. Recently, several problems seemed to start about the same time. The airbag light began staying lit, the speed control would not activate, and the horn does not work. Is there any possibility these problems are connected, or are there three separate problems?
Also, is the radiator thermostat easily replaceable? I found out that the air filter surely wasn't.

Oh come on, how bad can a simple air filter be? :P
Engineers would never put somthing so important ia a totally inaccessible place.

And you want to go after an air bag light huh?

Start by pulling codes, I have a feeling your looking at a aibag clockspring, but it's early yet. You are looking for a DTC called DRIVER SQUIB CIRCUIT OPEN.

There is a high resistance condition in the base of the clockspring.
The good news is that there is a safety recall on this regardless of miliege :D

Call the dealer for an appt, after confirming this with service

I did replace air filters on doge caravan in the past; you must have very small hands to get out the clips.
Just difficult to access, because too narrow.
Engineers may have small hands that time :-)

Test the power leads at the battery with a meter or test light. There are fusible links there and you may have disturbed a borderline one when doing the air filter

My airbag light has always come on intermittenly once in a blue moon. Recently my horn stopped working and then I noticed that all my cruise control buttons have stopped working as well. I checked my fusebox and noticed there was none marked horn. I then checked all the clear fuses and none were blown. How do you check the other fuses/relays and do you think it might be one of them?

Thanks---Kerry M. Willis

Hi:

It could be a fuse. In the owner's manual, it should list and identify all fuses. If that doesn't help, locate the horn, and with a test light, see if it is getting power. If it is, replace it. Also, under the hood there is a power distribution box. Check there if anthing is bad. The relays are located there too.

It's the clock spring, it is under the airbag. There was a recall on it about 4 months ago. DO NOT TRY TO REPLACE IT YOURSELF. You can get hurt real fast!

Call a dealership and ask if you car is covered, good luck and be safe. Vandrangon

Thanks to the reply on the clock spring because it was under recall and now the horn works, the cruise works and the air bag light doesn't stay on anymore. However I still am having problems with it dying on me. Sometimes not for a few days other times frequently in a 1 day period. Sometimes it dies in idle mode other times when I'm slowing down. It always starts right up, but boy is it frustrating, any ideas?

Could be the crank or cam position sensor. Do you smell fuel at start up? If so, there is also a recall on the fuelrail leaking. This would cause it to get to much air. If I can think of anything else I wil post. Vandragon

Nope! No fuel smell on start up or any other time. Also there are times where the check engine light will come on briefly while i'm driving and when it does the engine "hits hard" and lunges. It might do it once or 3 or 4 times. Light never stays on and when it does that the "hitting hard" it kicks off the cruise control
