Can you tell me exactly where to find it? I've been looking for diagrams all morning to locate it but I just can't seem to find it. Do you have any other suggestions for me to look at as possible culprits?

You should find it on the driver's side behind the ABS actuator. This is the best picture I could find.

Sorry, I didn't realize. The format won't allow me to upload it. Check where I mentioned to see if you can find the 2 black hoses and let me know.

Hello,

There is no fuse for the cruise control operation on your vehicle. The electronic control is handled by your vehicle's Power-train Control Module (PCM) or "computer" and as such, does not require a fuse to protect a separate circuit. I have have included in the diagrams down below a description of your vehicle's cruise control system as well as a couple of factory diagnostic tests to figure out what is going on with the system. Please go through this guide and get back to us with what you are able to find out.

Thanks,
Alex

Clock spring. It's a wound up ribbon cable in a round housing under the steering wheel. Eventually, as it continues breaking, the air bag light will turn on too and the system will be disabled.

Cruise will work fine for 2 - 40 miles, then drop off or pick up speed. Shortly after, will quit completely. Won't work again until engine cools.

This system uses a speed sensor with external speedometer cable so the speedometer can't be used for a clue. Speed reading on Chrysler's DRB2 stays steady, never erratic. Solenoid commands stay steady on the DRB2 also.

Don't like to throw parts at a problem, but since I have spare parts, swapped PCM with cruise circuit built in, swapped servo with vacuum hose, swapped control switch. No change in symptoms. The only things left are the wiring harness and speed sensor. Not interested in laying in a snow pile to change the sensor, but my question is:

Could the speed sensor be intermittent even though the value displayed on the scanner stays steady and accurate? This same design sensor, with a reed switch and rotating magnet, on '89 and newer vehicles gave a lot of trouble. They no longer used a separate speedometer cable, so the symptom was the speedometer stayed on "0" for a few miles, and the odometer didn't advance. However, the scanner reading stayed on "0" also. Mine reads properly.

Tried monitoring three actuator wires on servo, but test lights cause the servo to go wide-open-throttle. I plan on trying the same tests with LEDs to see if I can determine which circuit is causing the problem. Since it might speed up or it might slow down, I suspect a bad ground wire or multiple feed wires that are corroded or ribbed through and touching sheet metal, but where?

This vehicle has had amazingly few problems since it was new, but there always was a barely detectable surge when the cruise control was in operation. I would be interested in hearing about another vehicle with the same symptoms and the fix. The PCM, servo, and switch I tried are all used, but they worked fine in the donor vehicle. None of them caused any change in symptoms.

I've been mulling this problem over for a few years, so please offer an answer even if this post is now old.

Thank you very much;

Solved the problem. Noticed the VSS reading on the scanner was steady but always about 7 miles lower than the actual speed. Popped in a new speed sensor and the cruise has been working great for the last 2,000 miles! Yippee!

1997 Dodge Caravan, 90,000 miles. Could hear noise from just under steering wheel when manuvering car at low speeds - seemed to be something loose. Recently cruise control does not work. Can I get under the air bag in the steering wheel to see what needs fixing?
