Yesterday I was driving my van and stopped to run in for cigarettes. I was inside for maybe 3 mins. When I came back out he van started but when put in reverse it died. It restarted and I was able to go about 100 feet before it died again. I tried to restart again and it wouldn't start. It was turning over but acted like it wasn't getting enough fuel. I tried an hour or so later and it started right up and I drove it home without a problem. What does this indicate?

The only other problems are that the AC unit has a leak. And the lifters are rattling. Otherwise I haven't had any real problems.

I don't think they are related, unless the lifters are so out of adjustment they are no longer opening the valves enough.

Regardless, what I need you to do is check for spark and fuel. To me it sounds like the fuel pump is going bad, but I can't be sure until it happens again. If you don't have the tools to check pump pressure, many parts stores will rent them.

Let me know what happens or if this helps you.
