Engine problem
1990 Dodge Caravan 4 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 160000 miles

My car died today. I'm not sure what happened. Yesterday it started up pretty hard, and then it sounded like something slammed up against the bottom of the hood, and then it started. Today I was driving and it died. It started hard, then would idle, and when I shifted to drive, would sputter and die instantly. When I bought the car I was told the motor mounts were going bad, and it's been snowing like crazy lately. What might have happened?

Start by checking the auto shutdown relay this one powers the coil, injector/s and fuel pump.

If the engine mounts are bad it can cause the engine to move around which can cause the air intake tube to become discounted and cause a vacuum leak. I would lift the hood and check it out and then have the engine mounts replaced.
