Engine Cooling problem
1989 Dodge Caravan 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 100 RB miles

I was driving and noticed the temp guage in the red. I immediatly pulled to a safe spot on the highway and it stalled. It hasnt started since. It turns over but doesnt fire. I noticed a couple days prior that it was stalling on me at low idle, only occasionally. Could it be coolant temp sensor not sending a signal? It also makes a sort of "winding" noise when it turns over now. Iam not sure if it always made that noise or I can hear cus its not firing like it usually did.

I don't remember but seems the 2.6 and the 3.0 engines have the water pump driven by the timming belt. Sometimes the pump will lock down and strip the teath from the timming belt. Check the timming belt, and as the last answer check the compression.
