I have had my truck for six years and the cruise control has been working fine! However recently It stopped working. So, any time I turn it on it works for 5-10 seconds and immediately turns off. Then I turn it on again and it lights up and turns off. So, it does activate but does not stay on. Any help please? And I just replaced all the brake light buds and the Cruise control switch and I am still having the same problem.

There are a number of things that will cause this. So that means we need to start with checking basics.

That means the brake pedal switch could be hanging and it causes the system to deactivate.

However, this sounds more like a control module issue.

Basically, if the light will turn on and then it shuts off, it points more to a control module or switch issue.

So that means we need to start with checking voltage from the switch to the PCM on the signal return wire.

This is what the PCM uses to determine if the switch is being pressed and which circuit is being pressed.

If we have an issue with the switch, then it could be shutting it off but this voltage when the issue is happening will tell us this.

I am attaching the wiring diagram below which will help with this.

Let's run through this and go from there.

The light for it doesn’t light up when I turn the key. So this means it has to be with the wiring right?

Not necessarily. Does the light come on when you are trying to set the cruise and remain on?

The cluster test that you are referring to for the lights to light up when the key goes on is just a pre-check.

So, if the system works and then shuts off but the cruise light stays on in the dash means that the system is just getting deactivated but remaining ready to set again.

This is normally pointing to an actuator or control module issue that is not holding the cruise.

So, let's clarify this and let me know. Thanks
