Should I get a universal harmonic balance puller to remove the sprocket that covers the oil pump?

More then likely that will slip off or worse yet it could warp it as it only pulls at points. The special tool that the manual calls for is something that completely surrounds it.

I would check with some parts stores and see if they have it or something similar before using a 3 jaw puller which is what I assume you are referring to.

Let me know if you have questions.
