I have an oil leak and a mechanic at AutoZone said that there was a problem with my crankshaft position sensor, so I got a new one now just need to know where the old one is to replace it. From searching online, I believe the crankshaft sensor could be the main cause of the oil leak so it would be great to replace it. As for the oil leak going around 30-40 MPH for maybe 5 minutes and the engine starts to smoke, I believe from the oil leakage when I look under the hood the oil spread around the oil cap and the wires by the battery as well as a little on the battery itself, another issue is when I go to accelerate the engine is hesitant a lot and takes a bit to speed up. I don’t know if that has anything to do with the sensor, but I hope it does so it will only be one problem to solve.

Hello,

The crank position sensor is located just above the crankshaft pulley.
In order to replace the sensor, you will have to remove the timing cover and possibly the timing belt.

Can you tell me what was the code that you got?

Here is a guide that covers the typical symptoms of a bad crank position sensor:

I have attached the replacement procedure below for your reference.

Let me know of any questions.

Thank you.
