Where is the crankshaft sensor located on my car?

The crankshaft sensor is located in the side of the block here is a guide and diagrams below to help you change the sensor out.

My check engine light came on a few weeks back. Its off now but when I had it checked at an autoparts store. They told me it was the Crankshaft Position Sensor.I had to drive like 20 miles to an auto store that had the part. The employees there told me it was simple to change. Take out a bolt, unplug it. And plug it back in and rebolt it. The problem is.I HAVE NO CLUE WHERE IT IS LOCATED! Nobody at any of the auto part stores can tell me. And ive even asked a mechanic friend. And he said its around the engine block. Not near the pullys and its not near the alternator or oil filter like shown on one site. PLEASE just let me know where this stupid part is so I can get it changed out

On the 2.0L, it is at the right rear of the engine (pic. 1)

On the 2.4L Turbo, it is at the lower left rear of engine (pic. 2)

REMOVAL - 2.0, 2.4, 2.4L TURBO

The Crankshaft Position Sensor is in the front of the engine block just under the starter motor.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Raise vehicle and support.
On 2.4L SRT-4, remove the lower inner cooler hose from the metal tube.

Remove the Structural Collar, refer to the Engine, Structural Collar Removal and Installation section.
Unlock and disconnect the electrical connector to the crankshaft position sensor.
Remove the crankshaft position sensor bolt.

Remove the sensor.

INSTALLATION - 2.0, 2.4, 2.4L Turbo

Check O-ring for damage and lubricate the O-ring with engine oil before installing sensor.
Use a twisting motion when installing the sensor.
Install and tighten the crankshaft position sensor bolt and tighten to 9 Nm (80 ±15 in. lbs.) .
Connect and lock the electrical connector to the crankshaft position sensor.
Install the Structural Collar, refer to the Engine, Structural Collar Removal and Installation section.
On 2.4L SRT-4, install the lower inner cooler hose to metal tube and tighten clamp.
Lower vehicle.
Connect the negative battery cable.

Is the crankshaft position sensor located under the starter or above the oil filter in this year? Not finding it around starter.

I recently was driving down the road and when I turned on the lights, soon after my battery light came on, drove a little farther and my engine just shut off and wouldn't start again. I checked all wire connections, coil pack, battery, checked fuel pump by turning the key over and listening for a noise and it made the niose like the fuel pump was working, checked grounds and even starter wire connections, and nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary.

I also checked the spark by taking out a spark plug and grounding it to a bolt in the frame and had 2 other people even check it and still no spark, well at least me nor them saw one. It was snowing out that day and I even went through the whole car with a hair dryer to melt the snow because some got in, under the hood. I think it might be the crank sensor, but I do not want to change it unless that is deffiently the problem, and I can't even find the location of the crank sensor, could you guys please help me? I am not even getting a check engine light on, telling me the problem. What do you guys suggest could you e-mail the results to me at crazlay68@yahoo. Com? By the way I have checked the fuses and the timing belt by looking in the hole and seeing the chain move.

Check if the crankshaft position sensor is getting 8 volts on the orange wire

I was pullin the harmonic balancer on this 97 neon, and I know your supposed to loosen the bolt but leave it in, and I tried that but with the wrong puller, and it kept slippin off the bolt so I pulled it all the way out and a 3/8 6" socket extension fit in there nice and it wouldnt allow the puller to slip off. Now it is wedged in there soo bad and I am out of ideas to get it out! Ive tried to make my own puller to push against the balancer and a ten # slide hammer. It is stuck really bad. Ps I do have the right puller now just cant use it until I get the extension out of there. Any suggestions would be apprieciated. Thanks

Lock pliers have helped me pull that stuff before. Use a second pair to tighten them really insane like and try to pull it. If not you could use a pilot bearing puller attachment if it will fit in a 3/8ths hole. Maybe if it seems like there is no other way for it to come out. Shove grease into it, and eventually the pressure will pop it out. That will only work if it is in a solid hole. No holes or junk.
