Hello,
If the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) was out of the vehicle it wouldn't start at all. The Power-train Control Module (PCM) AKA, "computer" uses the signal generated by the CKP to determine where the engine is in its four stroke cycle. It also is used for misfire detection. I have included information from the factory on your vehicle's CKP in the diagrams down below. The rev limiter is set by your vehicle's PCM and should be adjustable via an after market tuner or tuning software, like products from SCT. I hope this helps and let us know if we can help out in any other way.
Thanks,
Alex
