Hello, I had just replaced my crankshaft and cam shaft position sensor on my 1998 Chevy k1500 z71. After replacing the sensors, it will crank but will not start almost as if there is no spark. I have good compression and fuel. After connecting an obd reader it is still giving me a p0336 code.

Hi,

Did this happen after the installation of a new crankshaft position sensor or was it the same prior to replacement?

As far as the sensor is concerned, it will prevent ignition spark to the plugs. Here is what I suggest. If you have a live data scanner, see if there is an RPM signal when cranking. If there isn't, recheck the wiring at the sensor.

If you don't have a live data scan tool, here is a link that explains how to test for spark.

If there is spark, then see if it starts a couple of seconds using starting fluid. If it does, then we know if it is a fuel-related issue.

If there is no spark, I attached diagnostics below specific to the code you provided. Take a look through them and let me know if you are comfortable performing them.

Take care and let me know what you find.

Joe

So far, we have ruled out Fuel. This problem did not happen prior to installing the new sensor, it did happen after the installation.

Hi,

Have you confirmed that it is getting spark to the plugs? If it isn't, recheck the crankshaft position sensor wiring, connector, and make sure it is installed correctly.

Let me know.

Joe
