Crank no start

Cranks over and tries to start but does not. Checked at gas cap to hear pump making sound when someone turns the key. Checked spark plug wire by pulling one off and holding it close while cranking engine and got no spark. Someone told me it could be the crankshaft sensor.

There are a lot of things that could be the problem. The best thing to do is to get it scanned for error codes and see if anything pops up. You can get a cheap OBD2 scanner from Amazon and just plug it in under the dash on the driver's side and see what comes up. Come back here with the code number(s) and we will see what is what.
