I was driving to work one day last week, and the car shut off after getting off the interstate and hasn't fired up since! I replaced fuel pump, PCV valve alternator, battery, etcs, and am about to replace the crankshaft position sensor now and the starter when it arrives. I don't have any transportation and don't have a multimeter or test light!

Hi,

First, if the starter is engaging and turning the engine normally, send the one ordered back. Yours is good.

Next, it sounds like the crankshaft position may have failed. Here is what to do: See if the engine starts when you use starting fluid. If it does and then stalls, we know it's a fuel-related issue. If there is no change, chances are there is no spark to the plugs (likely crankshaft position sensor).

Try this and let me know what you find or if you have questions.

Could it be the timing chain has broken or something? But there weren't any weird noises when the car shut off!

Hi,

Make sure the PCM you get is plug-and-play. You don't want to go through programming issues.

Also, if I understand correctly, the PCM has been replaced, and there is still no spark at the plugs. Is that correct? If you have a live data scan tool, see if there is an engine RPM signal present when cranking the engine.

Let me know.
