So my buddy has had this car for many years but 3 years ago he needed the manual transmission rebuilt and he hff ad that done and then it sat all apart for years and yesterday we got it all back together. We can't get the clutch tightener thing to disengage and spread back out it's the auto adjusting clutch cable and it still stays tight for when you would need to remove the cable.

Take a look at this procedure and let me know if this is what you are talking about.

Just to be clear, are you saying that this mechanism is stuck in the compressed position with no strap on it? If that is the case, I suspect you need to replace it. Especially if this has been out for years, I suspect it is seized.

Let me know if you are talking about something different. Thanks

I'm trying to do the opposite of that procedure. We took the clip off and tried pulling, yanking, twisting and nothing will make it pull back out.

So if it is not extending when you removed that retaining strap, the only thing that makes sense is it is seized. That strap holds it in the compressed state and it will release when removed. Is this new or was it the one that was on there after it was sitting?
