Will it go into the all of the other gears but not reverse? If yes it isn't the clutch. Now if it grinds going into the other gears and when shifting the clutch could be the problem in that it is worn and there isn't enough throw in the release to get it fully released. The repair then depends on which clutch you have, VW used both a cable style and a hydraulic. Both are self adjusting systems. The issue there is that the hydraulic version can be repaired somewhat easily while the cable version takes special tools to work with the adjustment assembly. The strap circled is one of them and comes on a new cable.

I have a 2017 Jetta. Would you happen to have the clutch diagram for cable or hydraulic? I'm not sure which one I have. Thanks

Hi,

On this new of a vehicle, it will be hydraulic. However, I need to ask a favor. I need you to start a new thread. We try to keep the threads specific to one vehicle type/year/model. All I need you to do is copy and paste your question to a new thread. Here is the link to get you started:

I hope you understand.

Take care and I'll watch for your new thread.
