Transmission problem
1994 Other Chrysler Models Engine Size unknown Front Wheel Drive Automatic 146000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
We got this car from a family member and they brought it home we took it out around town and it as fine then we went about 13 miles out of town after they left the ipm went high to and it will not shift up to let it go past 40 miles per hour so then we have to pull over and shut it off and start going again. and it will start the same thing as soon as you get to like 45 mph it will shift down so then the rpms start going to liike 4 or 5 so we live in a lilttle town and were not sure how much it will cost us to fix it. or where we could bring it to see whats wrong with it. so i hope you can please help me out with that .

thanks

Hi:

First, make sure the transmission is full. If it is, try the next cheapest repair, a transmission service with filter. If that doesn't help, have the computer scanned for possible codes. Most nationally recognized auto parts stores will do it for free. If there is a code, the number should point you in the direction of what needs repaired.

Let me know how it goes.
