1994 Chrysler New Yorker 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 154k miles
First let me describe the situation. I have a 94 New Yorker that my son forgot to get an oil change for. When I say 'forgot' I mean he was about 14k Miles overdue. I'm not sure if this is the cause of the car not starting, but am very suspicious.
He told me that the car had some trouble starting after driving short distances. He said it would start kind of slowly, sounding like the battery was dead. I, naturally, assumed it was simply that he needed a new battery and was going to get him one when the car wouldn't start while he was at a grocery store. We jumped it and it started without a problem. Drove it home and it wouldn't start again after we got it there (short trip, should've tried charging the battery more). At this point I let him drive another car until we got the battery replaced.
About two weeks later put a new battery in it and it wouldn't start again. When we turn the key the engine just goes 'Click' and does nothing. We even tried jumping the car again, to no avail. I was told it could be the starter. Does this sound like typical starter malfunction, or engine ceasing up? I want to replace the starter, but don't want to put in the time/money if the car is fubar. Could someone let me know what they think?
