Engine Cooling problem
2000 Chrysler LHS 6 cyl Automatic 175000 miles

My car has been tring to overheat but as long as you keep the defrost on 90 and turned all the way up it will not overheat. Today I went to the store and back and when I got home it started smoking and water was leaking by the driver side tire. Could this be the water pump?

The idea of keeping the heater on functions like an extra radiator, so that will help prevent an overheat. As far as the waterpump, it's on the passanger's side. It could be the pump, but you can check it to see if there is any evidence of a leak. I would start simple with a thermostat. Also, you may want to have the cooling system flushed.

Let me know if this helps.
