I have one of those POSs, bought new with less than 25,000 miles, and the same problem. As an interim solution try: leaving the POS in neutral, set the emergency brake, and turning off the POS. This doesn't activate the "start lock-out" but you won't be able to remove the key. Lock the POS using your other key/remote. If the remote won't lock it, use the key in the driver's side door, turning it clockwise. You should be able to unlock the POS with the spare key and start it.
This isn't the best solution, since the key is in the POS but not to worry; I suspect no self-respecting thief would be inclined to boost such a POS.
P.S. The transmission on mine started leaking after 14,000 miles and 39 months because of a defectively designed 0-ring--out of warranty because of time! I will never buy another Chrysler or Mercedes product again and caution all who read this to think twice and then buy a Honda or Toyota product.
