Engine Performance problem
1988 Chrysler 5th Avenue V8 Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 83923 miles

this car will spit & sputter going down the road or idling. sometimes the engine will surge while driving down the road. it's been known to die while going down the road & when trying to leave from a stop sign or red light. we have replaced the fuel pump & filter. we have also replaced the fuel lines,spark plugs,dristribtor cap & rotar cap. Please help!!!!!

Hi:
Have you had the engine scanned for trouble codes? You can get it done free at most nationally recognized auto part stores. Also, there are many sensors that could cause this type of problem, and the only way to determine which one it is would be to scan the computer.

Keep in mind, this could be something as simple as a vacuum leak, or as major as an intake gasket leak.

Let me know if it was scanned and the codes that were retrived.
