Transmission problem 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 123000 miles

We recently had the battery changed.3 days ago and everything was fine. This morning when we got into the van, we started it, put it in reverse and when we went to put it back into park to run into the house to get something we needed, we weren't able to put it into park and the engine shut off. Now when we try to turn it on, it will not start and the gear shift will move but won't shift into any other gear. The light stays lit on the R and the reverse tail lights won't turn off either. Please advise to what you think the problem is and is there anything we can try to fix it.

Thanks!

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation,

I feel that this may be a selector problem, first thing to do is with the engine off, inspect the selector at the gear box, is it moving with the selector lever? Let me know what you see.

Hello,

This sounds like a problem with the shifter cable being frozen and locked up. Remove the shifter cable from the transmission to see if you can move the selector arm and then the shifter. This should tell you what the problem is.

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

It could be a bad torque converter, TCC. When it stalls, does it feel like you left the clutch out on a standard transmission or just shut down?

Have the TCC checked. That stands for torque converter clutch.

I can't be sure it is that. It will need tested. If it needs replaced, I would say around 150. Based on where you live, that could be different.

Transmission problem
2000 Chevy Venture 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Hi I am havig a roblem with reverse on my Chevy Venture. I had a recon transmission fitted about 2000miles ago and I got the veicle stuck in a muddy field, I unisely quickly shifted back and forth from revers to drive untill I got out of the problem. All was fine for a while but slowly the revers became lower to engage and now will only move very slowly when cold and not atall when hot. All forward gears are fine. I cannot take the vehicle to the original installers as I have exported it to another country.
I guess my question is how easy would this be for me to repair the problem? And what could it be? Where can I get a repair manual that shows the brakedown of the transmission. Hope you can help as I will have to scrap the car if I can't fix it.
P.S I am a compatant mechaic but have never taken an auto box apart before.

There is a "reverse band" inside your transmission but, it doesn't appear to be adjustable. The trans uses both the reverse band and the low clutch to back up. Being your vehicle moves forward in low, I have to say the band is bad. There is no external repair. It would have to come appart. I learned how to rebuild trannys out of a book. I'm surem you can to. The key is in keeping all your parts in order and a good book will help here. I prefer Mitchell or Motors manuals personally. Haynes aren't too bad either. Most good parts stores can supply you with a rebuild kit but bands are extra. Hope this helps.
