For a few weeks I was losing coolant. I thought it was wierd that no puddles were in the driveway. A mechanic told me that the intake manifold was bad and needed to be replaced at a high cost. With so many miles on it I did not get the work done. I would like to somehow get it running again. The last time it ran the "hot" light came on and I just parked it. The oil is a milky color so that means coolant has mixed with the oil. What do I need to do to fix this?

Replace the gasket like you were first recommened. Hopefully you weren't driving it with it leaking to the point the oil got milkey. Coolant in the oil can undermine the integrity of the lower end of the engine.

So there is a chance that replacing the gasket may be all for naught. The only eay to know is to try it and cross your fingers. We have done these in the shop that were in this state have have had success.

I like to thoughly drain the oil and run a couple quarts more through it before starting the job. Then leave the drain plug off while doing the job and flush a little more or the oil. After assembly, I'll run fresh oil and filter. If it looks good, I'll change it again in 100-300 miles.
