Heat Issues

The heat in this truck doesn't seem to get that warm. Trying to do some diagnosis, the temp gauge never seems to get hotter than about 150-160. I am planning on replacing the thermostat (it's sitting in the glove box right now). Could that be what is affecting the warmth of the heat? I'm hoping it isn't the heater core as it's my understanding that the entire dash needs to be removed to replace that. The instructions on Autozone's website talk about rolling back the instrument panel and disconnecting the steering column (YIKES!). Yet it seems to be right behind the glove box but a little to the left of it. Can someone confirm the location and whether the entire dash truly needs to be removed to replace the heater core? I can't see any hoses leading to the area where I think it is but they could be further behind the dash. Also, I believe it could be the heater control valve. How does one diagnose the lack of heat?

Your attention to my question is greatly appreciated.

Number one and two causes of low heat are proabably old thermostat and low coolant level. Replace therm and get it full of 50/50 coolant mix and I bet you will have heat.
