i know nothing about cars-just to start off...
i had my alternator replaced in april, then in may it seemed to stop working again. Took it to my mechanic, and he couldn't figure it out, and replaced it free of charge. Its now 2 months after the second installation and it seems like it has gone again. Once I pop the hood and have it open for a few minutes it starts fine. Also when i have left for several hours or overnight it starts without a problem. Is it possible it has something to do with the alternator and it overheating?? I don't know if this means anything or if it even should be, but once it does start the fan at the front is not running-engine fan. I don't know if it a constant running fan or just at certain times.
PLEASE ANY ADVICE BEFORE I TAKE IT TO THE MECHANICS AGAIN!!!!!!!!

What are the symptoms? Wont start? Shuts off? Do you have a amp gauge on your dash board?

once the engine is turned off--sometimes not always-- it just won't start again, everything turns on a click and thats it..... I open the hood, it sits for a bit, and then it starts without a problem. It's very inconsistant!!

Ok, I would take it to your local parts dealer, and have them test your charging system. If it is not charging, then you might want to try another place for getting your altenators.
Another good thing to look for is the ground cable from the battery to the engine block. This cable can get corroded and cause all sorts of problems. Have someone try and start the car while you are pulling on the cable. Hopefully you will find a solution soon.
