My heater is not working?

If both heater hoses are hot to the touch then the issue is in the blend door mechanism. Most commonly the problem is the blend door actuator but it can also be an internal issue with the door itself. If you can access the actuator I would remove it and see if you can operate the door wit your fingers and shut the hot air off. If not, the HVAC housing is going to have to be removed and that will mean removing the dash.

The temperature actuator is located in the passenger compartment of the vehicle, on the front of the heater case. The instructions state that the dash has to be rolledback to even access the actuator.

I have a 98 chevy 1500 with the 305 motor. During the winter, I get very poor cab heat and the motor takes a very long time to warm up to operating temperature. I have replaced the thermostat multiple times and have had the cooling system flushed and pressure tested but have not been able to locate the problem. Any ideas?

Hi:
What temp thermostat did you install? The factory one is 195 degrees. If you put a cooler one in, that could cause the problem. As far as the heat, with the engine hot and the heater on, do both heater core hoses get hot?

Let me know,

Joe

I just bought an 98 chevy truck. There is no heat from heater, with the AC on, the tempeture is varied by the temp control but has no effect with the heater on. The engine temp reads normal but no heat.

The fan works OK?
Try warming the Vehicle, then carefully feel the heater hoses, are they both hot? If one is cooler than the other, You need to flush the core, or a replacement job on the heater core. Also if the system has a heat control valve on the heater hose, make sure it is working!

Did you check voltage and ground at the blower motor connector, before changing anything? Key on, hvac on, purple wire is voltage, black is ground, use testlite between those two terminals, wiring harness. Does the lite come on? If not use a chassis ground/metal part of vehicle, touch purple wire, anything.

None of the speeds work? All applicable fuses are good and voltage at the fuse circuit? There is blower relay, when relay is energized, only continuity for high speed. When relay is not energized, continuity for lower speeds. I'd have to check the circuits at the relay/resistors.
