There is a bushing that the yoke rides in. But it's on ly on the rear and not the front. If you are getting a bang then you may have soemthing seriously wrong with the t-case. If one mechanic says it should be revuilt then get another opinion. But also check yoru front wheels to make sure there isn't a problem with the automatic wheel lockups. The bushing can be replaced, not easily and if you ahve the taken care have a pro do it. You'll need either a specialized puller to grab it and take it out or be able to split it to remove it. OF course if you can take the extension housing off then you can just drive it out and drive a new one in as well as installing a new seal.
