1996 Chevy Suburban Starter

Several months ago, right after a tune up, the starter solenoid would click once when the ignition was turned on. Lights and indicators worked fine. My mechanic said he just had to repair the wiring. (I have the receipt in front of me.) It worked fine for several months, now it happened again. I realize the starter may have to be replaced, but wondered what I could look for to see if it was a similar problem where the wiring had to be repaired instead of replacing the starter.

Could also be the ignition switch and park and neutral switch that can cause the same problem.

If you want to check have helper hold key in the cranking position -you go underneath and check for power at the small purple wire on the solenoid-not there checked above mentioned items-
