I have a 2003 ext. Cab 4.8L 2 wheel drive Silverado, while driving the other day my speedometer kept increasing pass the speed I was going. It now rest at 55mph or sometimes at 120mph. Everything else works on the truck just fine besides my speedometer saying that I am driving around 130mph all the time. Some people have said the dealership will replace the entire gauge cluster for $500 while other mechanics are saying it will take a week to find the problem. Has anyone else experience this problem before and what can I do to fix it.

More than likely the problem will be in the cluster and it is not servicable so it would need replaced.

Give this a try. It worked for me when my 2004 silverado started doing the same thing on 8/28/07.

With the engine in park, turn the key and start the engine. Let it run for a few seconds and then turn it off. Each time you start the engine, you should see the speedometer do a slight reset by dropping the speed approx 5 mph. Mine was stuck at 60, but after turning the engine off and back on, it decreased by 5 mph each time until it reset to 0. Once it was back to 0, I then took it for a drive and the speedometer is still working correctly.
