Front Differential

I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado Z71, 5.3L, with 120,000 miles. I recently had the differentials serviced and the service shop filled them with synthetic oil, which they claim they drained and put in the proper oils. This was 3 weeks ago, since then I have put roughly 1000 miles on. Today I heard my front end make a clunking and pinging noise, not good. Is there any damage that synthetic oil will do to the differentials? Can I take the front CV shafts off and drive my vehicle back to my town to get it looked at? How much should I expect to pay to have a front differential replaced or rebuilt?

Not sure about the diff but do not remove the cv axles and try to drive it. The axles with the nut at the wheel is what holds the wheel bearing in. I f you try it the wheel will fall off or severly damage the bearing and they aint cheap
