I ran a diagnostic with a scanner and got back trouble codes c0035 and c0550. The first one says it is the speed sensor on the left front tire, the second one comes up as an ECU malfunction. Is this something a mechanic shop can fix or is the best thing to do to take it to a dealer? I looked at the speed line on the abs brake system on the left front tire and it looks normal. I also have no idea why my computer would suddenly fail, is this a common thing? Right now I cant get the truck over 30 mph without the revolutions going all the way to 4500 and me having to let off the gas. I have never had any problems before and always serviced the engine and trans according to the dealer suggestions.

So the transmission isn't shifting? You can replace the speed sensor and see if that changes anything. GM will of course be much more aware of the conditions and what to do about it than your local mechanic; it is really a matter of speed and price. An ECU replacement would be necessary if there is failure and should be well within the scope of most mechanic shops. Just find one that is trustworthy to you.

Sounds like a couple of problems going on. The speed sensor may be able to be cleaned. There was a tsb on it, but it doesn't always work. Usually a false abs activation is more common on that.

There is a reflash needed for the ecm to communicate properly with aftermarket scanners, so there may be more info that can be retreived.

The transmission sounds like it may have the 3rd and fourth gear clutches burnt.

This really needs to be diagnosed. I wouldn't sell your local guy short over the dealer. Any shop is only as good as the staff.

C0550 is the code of death for a control module. The module that set the code must be replaced.
