My truck yesterday died on the expressway, I went ahead and got off on the closest exit and pulled off to the shoulder. When I started it again, it just cranked with no start, I did about two more times, and then the sound of the cranking sounded loud, dry, and scratchy? Then it didnt even want to crank.

When we got it home, it would crank again, but wouldnt stay on. We checked the battery, checked the fuel pump pressure, changed the fuel filter, hooked up the computer with "No Malfunctions", checked the injectors, checked the fuel lines. Nothing. Our mechanic is stumped as well.

A while back, the flywheel had been making a noise while in motion, and eventually it stopped about two months ago. Could it have something to do with that?

Back in February (4 months ago) we spent money on a full tune up, changed everything sparkplugs, wires, alternator, belts, cleaned injectors. Etc.

Have you removed the inspection cover for the flywheel? Have a look in there. Could be the starter drive or teeth missing on the flywheel. You check engine oil?

Yes, checked the oil, although I do believe we have a problem with the oil because the guage fluctuates, and when I check, it seems low, but less than half a quart brings it back up to where it needs to be.

But no, havent removed the inspection cover. Will do.

Could that be the issue?

Lets say the flywheel may have cracked all the way around where it bolts to the crank, then yes it would bae a problem.
