Fuel pump was working when started - turned it off and it wouldn't start back after that?

Pickup died while driving - won't start back We messed around with wiring inside of dash - really doing nothing - pickup did start - fuel pump was working when started - turned it off and it wouldn't start back after that - it turns over just won't start

Thank you for responding. Through process of elemination we took a rubber mallot and hit on the middle of the gas tank - the engine would start and run as long as we were tapping on the tank. We replaced the fuel pump and are on the road again!
