I have a 97 silverado with the vortec 350, sometimes if I turn the ignition on and off about 5 times it will fire right away, but the only sure thing I have found is if I spray starting fluid into the intake it will fire right up and stay running. I have already changed the fuel filter, could my fuel pump be getting weak? Also it will bog and sputter if I stomp the pedal down on accel. But will speed up fine otherwise.

I'd use a gage and check fuel pressure first. Key on engine off. Some of the national brand autostores use to loan out a gauge, if you don't have one. If you have the spider fuel system, sometimes the fuel poppets need cleaning.

Check and test the coolant temperature sensor, test throttle position sensor-
