Idle Problem / Transmission Problem

I have a 94 s 10 2.2L. It starts up fine and if I shift into drive right away it shifts smooth thru all gears. After a minute or so, the check engine light comes on, it races a little higher and shifts real hard. I have replaced:

EGR VALVE
TPS
TEMP SENSOR

I can't figure out why when the check engine light comes on it starts shfting hard.

HELP PLEASE!

First thing I would do is get the codes scanned. Also check the speed sensor, they can make the tranny act up.

Thanks for the quick responses! Would the speed sensor affect the idle at all? This truck is driving me crazy.

No mainly while driving. They're inexspensive and easy to replace. Usually located on either the transmission or the differential housing. (Get the vehicle scanned first)!
