I drive a 1997 2wheel drive automatic 4.3 l extnded cab. The problem is I had to cange the brake pads due to the sqeeking. I put standard pads on and fixed the problem, keep in mind the rotors were smooth no groves. About a week after I changed the pads every now and then when I brake I have a grinding sound. Not a sqeek or realy like the rotors are warped but a grinding metal to metal, I took the wheel of and the pads are sucured in place. The noise doesn't happen all the time, sometimes I stop with no noise at all

Having a smooth surface on the rotors and new pads put on, what you're hearing is the metal fibers inside the pads grinding against the rotors. Semi metallic pads will do this. I can't remember the name of the product, but there is a chemical you can put on the friction surface of the pad that will absorb in the pad th stop the noise. Try looking for it. I only know of one company here in virginia that sells it so it might be hard to find. Send me a message if you can't find it and i'll call the company that has it to find out the name. Other than that, it's just noise don't worry about damage.
