My S-10 truck has a seized engine due to lack of antifreeze in the radiator. I did not have any gauge notices that the antifreeze was low, nor did I see any puddles under the truck. The truck just stopped on the highway and had to be towed. Now the mechanic is trying to determine if it should/can be repaired. What amount of money should I expect to spend on a used engine, and I want to install it myself. The body and inside of the truck are in great shape. Any thoughts?

Hello,

Replacing an engine will require few specialty tools in order to do the task.
You will need an engine hoist along with several other tools.

As far is cost is concern, a used engine for this vehicle can be purchased from $600.00 to $1,800.00 depending on the mileage and condition.
It usually take 10-12 shop hours to replace the engine for this truck. However that time will vary depending on your comfort level.

Here is helpful video of engine replacement:

I have attached complete engine replacement diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.

Thank you.
