2000 Chevy S-10 2000 S-10 wont start

I was driving around town and stop and go into my friends house for about 10 min come back out and go to start it and it turns over a little then stops then I go to turn it again it does nothing the starter doesnt click doesnt do anything I can hear the relay for the starter click in the fuse box but thats it everything else has power I unhooked the battery let it sit andd then triedd to start it and it did nothing oh and when I first tried to start it the tach went all hay wire. So im stumpped and have nothing to drive and work monday so PLEEEAAAASEEE HELP ME! Its not the battery or the alternater maybe some kinda switch idk but all the gauges work the starter just doesnt do anything wiring maybe?

Have a helper turn the key to the start position while you check for voltage to the smaller wire on the starter. You should get 12 volts. If you do, the starter is most likely bad. If not, check the starter relay under the hood in the power distribution box.
