Need some advice on a suspected starter problem.
my 1986 s10 2.5 cyl engine is progressly getting harder to start. The engine will turn over but very slowly. Have changed battery. Measured battery voltage is 12.85 which never drops below 9.2 volts when starter is engaged. Engine has alway been very easy to turn over until recently. I'm suspectly defective starter. But would like a second opinon.

Thanks for any advice

If its doing that cranking the engine over slowly the starter overunning clutch is slipping drop it or internal problems with the engine could be seizing putting a lot stress to the starter

Guess a didnt give enough information. Even thought the mileage is high on the truck. I did a complete engine rebuild about 30,000 miles ago. Once the engine does start even though it slowly turning over it runs great. So I'm not suspecting anything in the engine. If you think it might be the starter still. What area in the starter would it be. Stator, brushes, armature or bearings; I know starters or not that expensive but being a hands on guy I might open it up just to see if I can rebuild it cheaper. I'm leaning toward startor or brushes.

Thanks for the input.

Startor or brushes. Could be just the brushes/commutator-open it up and investigate
