When was it last tune-up?

Start by checking the ignition timing and test for exhaust restriction and check fuel pressure.

The ignition timing and the exhaust restriction is good nothing is wrong with it. How do I check fuel pressure? Because one of my friend to me it may be a vaccum leak but I cant find how to check for the vaccum leak.

What type of fuel system do you have Carb or EFI? You need a fuel pressure gauge to test the pressure.

Check your fuel filter, its located in the carb. Where the fuel line goes to carb, remove fuel line then remove the 1 inch block that goes into carb. That is where your fuel filter is located. Hope this helps. Feedback is appreciated.

Im afraid I dont have an answer for you but I do have a question.I just purchased an el camino. Though I am not sure what year I do believe it is an 81. Are they reliable cars? I do not wish to use it on a daily basis. Mainly for short 'a to b' trips and such. After I purchased the car I was told it wouldnt pass emissions and by others that all I bought were problems. Did I make a mistake? Or are you happy with yours?
