1985 Monte Carlo has no spark and no fuel

Hi,

First post. I was driving to work the other day when the car just kinda shuttered and then died. It would not start. About 30 mins later it started once and ran for about a min and then died again. I had it towed home and worked on it later that night. Using a timing light I found that I was not getting any spark, but also found that I was not getting any fuel. My helper tried it again and then the timing light flickered and then the car started right up. We ran it for about 3 mins and then shut it off and it has not started since then. I checked power to the fuel pump and with the key on, there is only about 7 volts. Still no spark either. I checked all of the fuses I could find and none were blown, but I did find a 7.5 amp ECM fuse (according to stenciling) does not have power on either side. I have changed the computer (ECM) but it did not help. The fuel pump relay seems to work because I can watch the contacts operate. My Haynes manual does not even show this 7.5 amp ECM fuse in the fuse box, so I have no idea where it is fed from. Any ideas? It is the 4.3 liter V6 with TBI.
Thanks. Robert

I found my problem. The fuel pump does not continuously pump until the car starts. The problem with the ECM 7.5 amp fuse not having power was either fixed by unseating and reseating connectors under the hood or my key was not all the way on when I checked it the first time. When I checked it tonight with the key all the way in the ON position, with a test light I had power to one side of the fuse.

The no spark problem was a faulty ECM in the distributor. Once replaced the car started and ran fine.

I still do not have a clue where that 7.5 amp fuse gets its power from or feeds it to, but anyway all is working now.

Regards,
Robert
