Is your check engine light on? That's the first place to start. AutoZone will usually scan your computer for free.
Also, a technician could use a more sophisticated scanner to monitor your vehicle while taking it on a test drive. This would pin-point the problem.
Yours does sound rather complicated.
First, when your engine is accelerating, if the r.P.M.S are increasing but the car isn't gaining speed, that's indicative of a transmission problem.
Second, if your engine stalls at idle (or while hitting the brakes), that's indicative of a fuel/ignition problem with your engine.
The first step is to have your computer scanned. There's no sense guessing. Once you get the codes from you computer, write back and I'll help you from there.
