See if the egr is still giving you problems and check to see if the evap valve is open or stuck open. Check yoru fuel pressure and clean the throttle plateon both sides with choke cleaner as well as the iac hole.

Engine Mechanical problem
1998 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 120000 miles

Concerning my 1998 Chevy Lumina. I start the car and let it idle. The motor has a consistent miss every few seconds then it will die. When I drive the car down the road the miss is detected like a miss or a skip. After doing this for a while the motor cuts off.
I replaced the plugs and wires.( Still have the issues of cutting out) Used a scanner and it showed cam sensor. I replaced the cam sensor TWICE and still have the same issues. What is the solution to this motor cutting out and then off?

The code is pointing at a system at fault.
Camshaft position sensor is used to keep the engine's control module informed about the relative position of the crankshaft. By monitoring cam position (which allows the control module to determine when the intake and exhaust valves are opening and closing), the control module can use the cam position sensor's input along with that from the crankshaft position sensor to determine which cylinder in the engine's firing sequence is approaching top dead center.
The problem is the misfire. If you could rescan and post the codes, I will greatly appreciate to help.

The code on the scanner shows 341 camshaft sensor
The Lumina has had the cam sensor replaced 2 times. Each time with a new one. All in the same week.
Changing the sensor did not solve the problem of the misfire.
ALSO If the code is taken out. The check engine light and the misfire may not happen untill after about 20 miles or so when the car gets warmed up.
But sometimes check engine light and misfires will start right after starting the motor too.
So after the car gets warmed up in about 20 miles or so you will feel the misfire and then take your foot off the gas pedal and start to brake for a stop sign or red light. The car will misfire and cut the motor off. The motor will start back up though and continues with the same issues.

Thank you for providing the code.
What you need to do is to check that the wiring isn't routed too close to any secondary ignition components (coil, spark plug wires, etc.)

Visually inspect the wiring at the sensor for any burn marks, discoloration indicative of melting or chafing

Check for poor wiring connection at PCM.

Visually inspect the reluctor wheel through the cam sensor port for any missing teeth or any damage'

Engine Performance problem
1998 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 163000 miles

If im on a flat surface and cruising the engine does fine. But when I accelerate it feels like the engine is missing and almost feels like the transmission is trying to shift but is slipping. Im pretty sure it has something to do with the engine because most of the time, but not always the service engine soon light flashes. The SES light is always on also. Please help before I spend thousands on getting this fixed

When ever your Check Engine light comes on, your computer is trying to tell you there's a problem and it sets a code to point you in the right direction.

So the first thing to do is have your computer scanned. AutoZone and any other major parts store will do this for free. They'll also tell you what the codes mean. If not, write back and I'll walk you through the definitions and what needs to be done.

Another thing you could do is find a shop that'll do a free estimate. Then give me a list of what the service writer ordered and I'll let you know if it's something you can do yourself to save some money.

My Lumina just quit while driving, what could be the problem? I was able to check fuel pressure and that looked good. Any advice as to what to check next?

What is the fuel pressure spec? If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it, while you check for spark at the plugs. You can carry a known good spark plug or spark tester, don't pull a spark plug from engine. Pull a spark plug wire loose, use the tester in the spark plug boot, ground metal part of tester to metal part of engine, engine cranking, watch for spark.

We found the problem. We had the ignition modual (The board that the ignition coils set on) checked and it was good. The person at the parts store suggested replacing the Cam position sensor. We replaced it and the car works again.

The cam sensor shouldn't kill it going down the highway, maybe a crank sensor? As long as you got it fixed, that's all that matters. Good job

Welcome to the forum, how long since a tune-up? Are there any codes? Use a gage and check fuel pressure, you can check pressure, key on engine off, engine idleing, and after engine stalls. Does it idle rough before it stalls?
