1991 Chevy Lumina dies when put into gear

Car starts ok but dies when put into gear have replaced ignition coil pack first thought the maf sensor but dont think so now thanks in advance for your help

Could be that it's dying when you step on the brake pedal. With the parking brake on, pull the large vacuum hose off the brake booster and plug the hose. Start the engine. Step on the brake and put the transmission in gear. Did it die? If it didn't die, reattach the vacuum hose to the brake booster and go through the steps again. If it does die it's probably a leaking brake booster. Of course it could be anything else too, but check this one first. Easy to do to rule it out as a problem.
