I have 1993 Chevrolet Lumina. The problem is that with the key off and doors shut, the instrument cluster and dome lights come on. The map lights on the rear view mirror also will come on. I have tried replacing the light switch and the problem persists. As a temporary fix I have found that by pulling the dome light bulb (and disconnecting the map light wires from the mirror) and setting the interior lighting switch to the full on position that the lights on the dash will stay off, therefore saving my battery. Any suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Hi
This is a real diagnostic nightmare. You have replaced the headlight switch that was a good thing. Was dimmer part of switch? All good when car is running?
Inst lights with heads on? Dome works when door opened? Mirror lights work?
Let me know
Thanks for donate

Yes the dimmer switch is on the light switch panel. So all was replaced with one piece. Matter of fact I actually tried 2 new switches. Went back to car, installed dome light. Now then, with door open dome light was on and cluster lights were off. As soon as I shut the door dome light went out and cluster lights came back on. I did find that while I was sitting in the car that I could depress the headlight switch a little bit(not enough to actually turn headlights on) and the cluster lights went out. Of course this isnt a great solution because as soon as I open the door to exit vehicle, the cluster lights come back on.

Oh yeah. As mentioned before the way I keep my battery from being drained is to pull the dome light and put the dimmer switch in full on position. This is the only way that the cluster lights wont come on. But yes when I turn the headlights on in the evening the cluster will light as it is supposed to do.

Nothing at all has been installed. There is no security system. Im not sure whats going on now as this problem has been happening for about 6 months and was killing my battery every day, thats why I started pulling dome light and putting dimmer switch in full on position as described in previous post. As of last night when I reinstalled dome light bulb and moved dimmer switch to normal operation to test. The cluster lights and dome light and mirror lights arent staying on all night as they were before! Now when I close the door the dome and mirror lights go out instantly, the cluster lights come on when the door is shut and stay on for about a minute then they go out. This is really confusing me.

Yeah lets see. The instrument cluster, ac control panel and all door lock and window switches illuminate when door is shut. Stay on for around a minute then shut off on their own.
