Steering problem
2005 Chevy Impala Automatic

My car has been sliding so I put new tires on it and it still slides in dry weather, and wet real bad. When driving it it feels like the backend sways from right to left. Like going over a bump it kinda feels like your coming off the ground and swings right to left. Can you help me with my problem?

Hi:
Wow, that is a good one. Have you had the alignment checked? Does it feel like a brake is sticking?

No I havent had the alignment checked. But would that cause just my backend to slide? And no my brakes dont feel like there stuck. Hmm. Its kinda hard to explain, it just feels like my whole backend slides, my friend told me it looked like from the back that going down the road my car look crooked. I just had a sway bar put on b/c my previous one broke in half. My dad says maybe the person put it on did it wrong or something, he said something about rubber pieces my be deterirated?

Hi:
What your friend described is called tracking. The car appears to be going sideways down the road. Something is wrong with the rear axle / alignment of the car. Find a GOOD certified mechanic and have it checked. And yes, the rear is alignable.

Let me know what you find. I'm anxious to hear what caused the problem. It could even be a broken tracking bar.
