Recently my 2005 impala started to make like a small banging sound when shifting into 3rd and 4th gear. It only does this everyone in a while but when it starts it doesnt stop until the car has been shut off for a while then it drives fine. This problem is becoming more frequent and just curious about what I should do. I have scheduled an appt. To change the fluid and get tuned up. What are your suggestions?

Hi:
The trans service may help, but the tune up won't. The car may have a broken motor mount or trans mount. Have a helper put the car in drive, and with their foot on the brake so the car doesn't move, give it a little gas while you watch the engine to see if it moves up excessively. Do the same in reverse and let me know what you find.
