2002 Chevy Impala Catalytic Converter

I found the converter clogged and replaced it. The car runs great now. Can you tell me why the internal honeycoam material failed and clogged. Is this a manufacture defect? I read the repair of the intake manifold due to the converter clogging and causing a burn hole in the plenum.

Usually they just go bad after time. I seen them go bad from a number of things also

If you have a poor performing engine, it can cause premature catalyst failure. Make sure you keep up with the vehicle maintenance schedule.
