Engine Cooling problem
2001 Chevy Impala Front Wheel Drive Automatic 180000 miles

my car has started to overheat and noticed neither one of my fans are working. Is it possible that is it just a fuse?

It could be just a fuse or relay. Does it only overheat when the car is in stop and go traffic or does it do it at highway speeds too?

It has happened twice when I was in bumper to bumper traffic on highway. When the car started getting to hot I pulled off and waited for engine to cool down and traffic to start moving. Once I was moving again - engine stayed normal temp.

The fans not turning on is the problem. When you are hardly moving or stopped, there is no air flow. That is when the fans need to come on. When you are moving, air flow happens from the vehicle moving. Thus, it doesn't overheat.

The first thing I need to know is if the fans are good or bad. Take a jumper wire from the battery to the fan motor to see if the engine runs. Let me know what you find.
